Art Eisteddfod Competition 2024

Students in Year 7, 8 and 9 have produced some fantastic, creative responses with their Eisteddfod homework. Each year we set a challenge for students to create a piece of work based on a fitting Eisteddfod theme. Every competition entry receives house points, with more points awarded for those who receive a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Year 7 students were asked to create a piece of Celtic jewellery or a Celtic shield.  We have been overwhelmed and amazed with the staggering amount of Celtic shields and Celtics jewellery that were made, with students impressing us with their dedication, creativity and skill. We have never had such an impressive number of Celtic shields.

Year 8 were set the task of creating a 2D or 3D model of their local church or chapel.

Some students used their model making skills learned in class, creating 3D churches, some used collage and others impressed us with their drawing and painting skills capturing their local church.

Year 9, students had the challenge of drawing a Welsh icon using 2D media of their choice. Entries ranged from the legendary Faithful dog, Gelert to footballer, Gareth Bale.

It was a challenge to choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd due to the exceptional standard of work.

Year 7 – 1st Ellie Mainwaring, 2nd Jamie Ashworth, 3rd Cadi Rooke

Year 8 – 1st Charlie Andrew, 2nd Evangaline Kearney, 3rd Julia Grzegorzewska

Sixth Form Community Art Project

Our sixth form students had an amazing opportunity to work with the team at Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust to help create their new mural. Working with Mark, Jo and Val they learnt how to use spray paints to paint up their large scale artwork based on local wildlife and organisms.
“The trip we took to the Montgomeryshire Wildlife trust was fantastic, and being able to explore a new medium like spray paints was an invaluable experience. The staff were very welcoming and super helpful when explaining what we needed to do. I think all of the spray paint pieces have helped to brighten up the area and to be able to contribute to it was great. I would love to do something like this again if we had the opportunity.”
Abi Smith Yr13
The students who took part were, Nancy Clapton, Kai Hopkinson, Jadon Magness, Caitlin Jones, Cerys Griffiths, Abi Smith, Shean Rono, Megan White and Dominik Topolski from year 13 and Dylan Bartley, Lena Grzegorzewska, Izzy Jones, Lilly Jones, Rob Jones, Emily Martin, Holly Owen and Hope Williams from year 12.
You can see their artwork on display at the centre at Severn Farm Ponds.

Community Art Project

In collaboration with Arts Connection Powys, local artists Linda Jane James and Paul Butler have been back in school to work with the boys to complete their community art project. Working in small groups the boys have been painting up their final designs on large scale boards. We are looking forward to see their artwork on display somewhere in the town.
